Halloween is coming up, and my Witches Brew Cocktail is the perfect drink to liven up your party! Ready in less than 10 minutes, mixing vodka, matcha, and soda, it’s delicious and spooky with its natural green color, and guaranteed to be a major hit.

Cocktails are always a fun way to celebrate Halloween. Whether I’m throwing a party or just enjoying the holiday with my family, this witches brew cocktail always grabs the headlines along with strawberry vodka spritzers for its deep green color and delicious flavor.
The bright green hue is from matcha powder, which I use to make delicious white chocolate matcha brownies with for the kids on Halloween. With every sip of this spooky cocktail, you’ll get even more festive as the evening goes on. It will quickly become one of your favorite Halloween drink recipes!
What I love most about this witches brew cocktail is that it’s actually healthy, with potassium, zinc, iron, magnesium, and amino acids from the matcha powder, and has zero sugar when using sugar-free soda for the bubbles. I even make mocktails for the kids, so they don’t feel left out by removing the alcohol. So everyone gets to enjoy this fun and spooky drink during Halloween.
Guests loved it last year when we hosted a Halloween party. It takes me all of 5 minutes to prepare a jug of witches brew cocktail by mixing the matcha powder, vodka, and cream soda in a jug and adding dry ice at the end to create a spooky fog effect, which is what makes this cocktail a true showstopper when everyone gets their phones out to take pictures.
It’s not just an impressively fancy alcoholic drink fit for any party, but it also tastes amazing! And the best part? You don’t need to be a bartender or cocktail maker to make it. It’s the perfect beginner-friendly cocktail to get the party started in a fun and spooky way, with just 3 ingredients that the whole family can enjoy. Even those who claim that Halloween is not their favorite holiday will absolutely love this spooky witches potion!
🥘 Ingredients
You don’t need a lot of ingredients to make my spooky cocktail that is guaranteed to impress your guests!

Cream Soda: I make this cocktail with cream soda, but if you are looking for a lower-sugar witch cocktail, you can use Zevia Cream Soda or Olipop Cream Soda.
Matcha Powder: There’s no need for green food coloring in this cocktail, as matcha powder is a natural, healthy ingredient that gives this drink its green hue. I recommend buying organic and toxin-screened matcha powder, but there are tons of options in terms of which brand to buy, so just get whichever matcha powder you like the best!
Vodka: Get your favorite variety for this witches brew alcohol drink! My favorite options for a quality cocktail are Grey Goose or Luksusowa. Vanilla vodka is also a great choice that will complement the cream soda.
Substitutions
Soda: I like the flavor and creaminess of cream soda, but you can use any light-colored variety of soda, like lemon lime soda or club soda.
Chlorophyll: You can use a few drops of chlorophyll for an equally eerie green color in this Halloween witches brew drink.
Liquor: I prefer a neutral spirit like vodka because it works well with this easy cocktail. However, you can experiment with any other spirit you like, such as tequila, whiskey, white rum, coconut rum, apple brandy, or empress gin.
🔪 How To Make
Here are my step-by-step instructions on how to make this easy witches brew cocktail.
Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, I add every ingredient and whisk well to make sure that the matcha powder is well incorporated. If there are some clumps after whisking well, you can remove the clumps with a spoon or pour it through a sieve. Note: If using green food coloring, add 2 drops at a time, then mix well. Continue adding drops, then whisking, until the desired color has been reached.

Serve: I transfer the drink to a pitcher, large punch bowl, or glasses (martini glasses or highball glasses work best). If serving in a pitcher, I add a small block of dry ice and 1 cube of dry ice when serving in individual glasses to serve the spooky beverage. For extra spooky fun, I serve in a cauldron and place a little dry ice at the bottom first before pouring in the green witch punch.

My #1 Secret Tip for this Witches brew cocktail is to always stir. While some cocktails are meant to be shaken, I recommend leaving the cocktail shaker in the cabinet for this one. Since the soda is carbonated, shaking it up could cause a big mess!
Other Tips To Keep In Mind:
- Upgrade these fun cocktails. For some extra Halloween fun, I add some ice cubes that are shaped like various Halloween shapes. They are an inexpensive and easy way to level up this recipe for witches brew cocktail punch.
- Include the healthy part. The matcha powder is a healthy ingredient that enhances the color. It doesn’t affect the flavor of this witches brew drink for Halloween at all, thanks to the sweetness of the cream soda.
- Serve immediately. The best way to enjoy this alcoholic green potion is as soon as it’s mixed. The cream soda is carbonated and will go flat the longer it sits.
- Exercise caution with dry ice. Dry ice cocktails are fun, but can be dangerous to prepare. Be very careful when handling and storing dry ice and do not touch it with your bare hands. I recommend storing the dry ice in a well-ventilated space or outdoors, away from kids and pets, and never ever eat or drink the dry ice. It can burn you if consumed.
📖 Variations
This witches brew drink is super-customizable. Here are a few ideas on how to level up and adapt this witches brew cocktail recipe:
Kid-Friendly Version: To make a kid-friendly witches brew drink, leave out the vodka and use regular ice instead of dry ice. They will love how cute it is and will be more than happy to sip on their special Halloween-themed beverage!
Fruity: Sometimes I use a more neutral, light-flavored soda, like ginger ale or lemon-lime soda, and mix in juices like lime juice, orange juice, cranberry juice, or pineapple juice to give the witches brew cocktail a different taste.
Festive Rim: Take this delightful cocktail to the next level by coating the rim of the glass before pouring the drink. First, I run a lime or lemon wedge around the rim, then dip it in colored decorator’s sugar, and place gummy worms and candy eyes inside for a fun and festive sugar rim.
🍽 Serving Suggestions
These hocus pocus witches brew cocktails are perfect for pairing with some Halloween party food recipes. Here are a few ideas for snacks and treats that will pair well.
Appetizers and Meals: No meal (or starter) says “Halloween” quite like these Halloween quesadillas! I make Jack-O-Lantern pumpkin faces with the quesadillas and fill them with pumpkin puree and cheese. Zucchini pizza boats also make a great addition to any finger food party. And if you need several party food ideas for your party, I have made a list of vegan party food recipes that are easy, delicious, and use few ingredients.
Sweets: I pair these themed cocktails with other Halloween sweet treats for both kids and adults, like Halloween monster cookies, which are great fun to make with kids, along with funny face Halloween apples. With delicious Halloween party food recipes and the perfect spooky drink, your party will be a huge success, just like mine was last year.
🧊 Storage Directions
Refrigeration: I do not recommend storing the witches brew cocktail, as it is much better and fizzier when made fresh. However, it can be chilled for 48 hours, but the fizziness will fade away.
Freezing: Freezing is not an option for this drink.
Reheating: This alcoholic Halloween drink is served chilled and does not need to be heated before serving.
❓Recipe FAQs
No. It is not necessary to chill the soda and vodka prior to making the cocktails as the dry ice will make the drink nice and cold. However, putting the cream soda and vodka in the fridge so they are cold when you start is a great idea.
Yes. This witches brew cocktail does have a sweet finish when using cream soda.
The best way to handle dry ice is by using leather gloves, a thick towel, and/or tongs. I recommend separating the dry ice into 1-inch chunks for cocktails with a flathead screwdriver, hammer, and a set of glasses. I use the hammer and screwdriver to separate the block of ice into small pieces by gently tapping on the ice until it breaks apart. The glasses will protect the eyes just in case shards fly when separating the ice (although this is rare when done carefully).
I use tongs to drop the dry ice cubes into the cocktail before serving to create the spooky fog effect. It will bubble for about 5 minutes before disappearing, so tell your guests not to drink the dry ice cubes.
